I know, I know! Everything in moderation is ok....but it should really be moderation in moderation. I really do believe that there is a time and place for everything, but I can't help but turn my nose up at the following foods:
Soft Pretzels: It may be a Philly thing, but these sodium laden treats can be found in every break room from Allentown to AC. With a whopping 70 grams of carbohydrates, this snack option is equivalent to eating over 4 slices of bread!!! I normally wouldn't suggest this, but the vending machine would offer a better alternative.
Soda (Diet or Regular): With new studies suggesting even diet soda is related to obesity and weight gain, I suggest everyone nix the stuff, sans sugar or full on fructose. Try sparkling water with a lime or lemon slice for a refreshing beverage with the carbonation kick.
Smoothies: They may be loaded with vitamins and minerals, but most shakes offer up anywhere from 280-1600 calories due to the concentrated amount of fruit and sugar! Skip the blender and load up half your plate with fruits and (mostly) veggies.
Milk or dairy treated with bGH, rbGH, bST, or bST (bovine growth hormone): This hormone "is given to cows to make them mature faster and produce more milk. The hormone is produced by cows' pituitary gland and an extra amino acid is attached before it's injected into dairy cows". Need I say more? Look for products, like the stonyfield brand, labeled "organic" or "from cows not treated with bGH or rbGH".
