If you haven't noticed, this is an on going blog theme. I love sharing the foods I not only recommend you buy, but buy myself. Yes, we have more control in what we put into our bodies when we prepare food from scratch, but unfortunately our environment and hectic schedules get in the way of adhering to this philosophy 100% of the time. Luckily there are brands out there that cater to the struggle and offer options that are ready in the matter of minutes and without the scary processed junk. I have listed just a few of my favorite convenient, YET WHOLESOME options that keep me from grabbing the take-out menu when I just don't have the energy to fully prep a meal or snack. I must also note, that all of the listed items have been toddler approved in my test kitchen, and whatever wasn't tolerated never goes to waste....I have a dog:)
Dr Praeger's California Veggie Burger: You don't have to be a vegetarian to be a believer. This one taste great. So much flavor and fiber for only 110 caloires. This is great paired on a whole grain English muffin or 100 calorie deli flat and a piece of fruit to round out the meal. I always keep a box, or two, in the freezer on standby for my hubby and toddler.
Boom Chick A Pop Popcorn: Put down the pretzels......that snack is doing nothing for you. I love the guilt free snacking that popcorn allows. Full of antioxidants, fiber and all natural ingredients, you can load up on this super food with a whopping 2 cups for just 120 calories. This particular brand is dedicated to providing non-GMO ingredients and is also gluten free and vegan. Dreams do come true!
Amys Low Sodium Lentil Soup: A much cheaper and healthier alternative to a bowl at your favorite resturant and a great option for meatless Monday. I always keep a can on hand in my pantry. I never recommend soup to anyone who is attempting to comply with their salt restriction, but this one gets the green light (1 cup is 340 mg of sodium). This is the perfect solution to a busy lunch option at home or the office.
